Supplementary

Not to forget!

Going through e-learning modules, StratOG, cannot be emphasized enough. Apart from core knowledge, courses on human factors, workplace behavior, and global women’s health are requisite resources. There are also links in the essential readings section of each module which provides further information on the topic.

Additional study material relevant to MRCOG Part 2&3 includes websites like ‘Cancer Research UK’ & ‘NHS choices’. Likewise, guidance provided by Public Health England (chlamydia screening; cervical screening); current MBRRACE-UK reports (confidential inquiry); PILs(Patient Information Leaflets); Consent advice; GPP (Good Practice Points); SiP (Scientific impact papers); WHO surgical safety checklist; Sands (communication in breaking bad news station) should be delved into.

Other useful websites are NHS England (understand ICSs, serious incidents framework); GOV.UK (Health and Social Care – Ockenden report); Code of Practice (mental capacity act); Vimeo videos (suturing techniques); youtube video (teaching station); Department of Health (responding to domestic abuse) and GMC-UK.org (confidentiality, consent, safeguarding). NHS trusts also have mandatory training which helps provide a better understanding of principles applicable to UK practice, which can apply to exam preparation.

Obviously, there can be more study resources available, but if an International medical graduate without NHS work experience, sitting this exam then at most these (resources discussed in this and previous blog) are the areas to be covered.

I remember from my journey, to improve my communication and counseling skills (verbal and non-verbal cues), especially in breaking bad news stations I used to follow the Victoria Derbyshire show (link below) on BBC, so anything that seems relevant can be useful for exam preparation.

In conclusion, it’s your journey and to make it fruitful and desirable you need to identify your own way of learning.

In upcoming posts, I will be touching upon a few important topics for the exam (relevant to MRCOG Part 2&3)
